My plan for this blog is to post a quilting idea with a happy thought every Monday, and a happy thought with a quilting twist every Thursday. Even if your not a quilter, I hope there will be something for everyone.
Simple gratitude or being grateful makes us happier. When we focus on the things we are grateful for, we can train our brains to focus on the positive. We can train our brains to be “half-cup-full thinkers”. We can train our brains to focus on the good in our lives. I have told my kids for years, “Happiness is a choice!” We can find joy and
happiness in almost any situation if we look for the good.
I’m not talking about being grateful for the big stuff like home and family. I’m talking about the little stuff…things like, you didn’t have to unpick that block one more time! Or that you had the perfect piece of fabric in your stash for that quilt. Or that your pins can be ironed and you aren’t going to have to clean the iron and ironing board when you melt them to your project! Haha!
Gratitude affects every aspect of our lives. When we choose gratitude, we choose happiness. I try to find ways to incorporate gratitude in my daily life. I once heard a story about a man who put a rock in his pocket and every time he touched the rock he thought about something to be grateful for. Well here’s a quilting version, put
a button in your pocket and do the same thing.
I don’t know about all of you, but somehow buttons end up all
over my sewing room. It’s like they are having babies or something! And I find them everywhere, especially if I have done a project lately that has buttons on it! Every time you find one of those little fellows, find something to be grateful for. When you put on a shirt and button it up, find gratitude. When you are leaving the
house and put on your button up pants (because I love sewing in my “comfy” pants), think of something to be grateful for. It could be that you’re grateful that they make pants with elastic waist bands and not with buttons!
When you sew on a button, find a button, or touch a button, find that little thing in your life that makes life a little brighter. My husband would tell you, that most days, he’s grateful to NOT step on one of my pins! Oops! We can use buttons as little reminders during our day to remind us that life is full of little blessings.
Happy Quilting!
